A Little Hitchhiker Shawl

Recently, I just finished knitting my most recent project. I used the Cascade Sunseekers yarn in a variegated blue. The yarn is a cotton blend and while not as soft as a merino wool, the glitter woven in the yarn makes up for the softness. I called this yarn my mermaid yarn. The blue reminds me of something from the Little Mermaid or Sims 3 Island Paradise. I used the pattern, Hitchhiker, from Ravelry. The pattern was simple to follow and a great first shawl to tackle. Because I used the cotton sport yarn instead of a fingering weight yarn, the yarn combined with a larger sized needle combined to make the shawl larger than the original pattern. I still need to hand-wash the shawl to set the yarn color. However, I have already worn it once and love the shawl! I even cast on another Hitchhiker, this time in a fingering weight. Here are some pictures of the finished shawl.

There are 42 ridge points along the edge of the shawlIMG_0180

Meeting Hamster and Chipmunk

Saturday afternoon, Mr. Tux and I visited Brynn and her new babies. Brynn’s twin baby girls were born May 19 and I was so excited to go visit them. Both weighing in just under 5 pounds, the girls are absolutely tiny and wonderfully precious. It was awesome to not only visit Brynn and hold the babies, but to also see the blankets and hats I made for them in action. Sadly, however, the hats, even though I used a newborn pattern, are still humongous on the girls. I did however get some wonderful pictures of the girls. So with special permission from Brynn, and without further ado, I introduce you to Hamster and Chipmunk!

Brynn’s nursery colors are pink and greenIMG_4992

I used her colors to create two blankets using green chevron and solid pink flannel, and the green chevron and pink fleece to make two more blanketsIMG_4978

I also used the yarn I used in this post for the twins’ hats to make a special blanket.IMG_4973

It didn’t turn out quite how I wanted it too…oh well. It is still adorable.IMG_0201

Look at those tiny handsIMG_0199

I got to hold Chipmunk for ages. She was quite a wiggly sleeper.IMG_0203

Hamster is so over the photos!IMG_0207

After trying on the hat, we tried swaddling Hamster in one of the blankets.IMG_0208

That fell apart quickly. The girls do NOT like to swaddle.IMG_0209

While Hamster was making her displeasure known…IMG_0205…Chipmunk was all like, “Yo Dude! What’s up?”.

We had a wonderful time and I am going to have to make another trip to visit soon. Those girls are precious and I am so happy for Brynn. Congratulations Brynn on your precious babies!!

Weekending: Adventures with a New Camera

My birthday was Friday, and I got to enjoy a wonderful birthday weekend with my boys. We had a grand time. Mr. Tux gave me a new camera for my birthday and I spent all weekend playing with it. My new camera was purchased specifically for its size and ability to make a great cycling camera. It is small enough to fit in a jersey pocket. I love it! I got to take lots of pictures over the weekend. So enjoy the photo dump.

{It’s a Doxie Life} – A Visit to the Vet

Today is another special blog post from Tuxley. Sit back and enjoy as {Tuxley Blogs}.

Last Tuesday evening, Mom and Dad betrayed Zeus, Apollo, and I. They tricked us. We were bundled up in our respective crates and hauled us off to the vet. It was HORRID. For the entire car ride, I was stuck in my crate between Apollo and Zeus. They spent the ride screaming and yowling. As soon as we got to the vet, mommy carried me inside. Daddy brought the cats inside. The entire vet’s office quickly became aware we had arrived.

If you look closely at the crate on the right, you can see Apollo’s eye glaring out.IMG_5422

Glowing Zeus eyes on the left!IMG_5425

I spent the time waiting for the doctor in mommy’s arms. Shaking. Trembling. Full-body shivers. Even my miserable shivering was not enough to soften mommy and daddy’s hearts and make them take me home. How cruel! When the nice vet came in, he seemed okay. However, he proved to be cruel and traitorous as well. He gave me a shot and my Bordatella vaccine. The Bordatella vaccine is horrible. They shove something up my nose and fill my sensitive snout with liquid. It’s nasty and causes me to sneeze. Once the vet was done with me, it was Apollo and Zeus’s turns. I was finished and spent the rest of the appointment sitting up and looking on my siblings’ exams with great interest.

The vet said that I was a healthy 13 pounds and that I looked to be a pure sexy specimen of the dachshund breed. (Of course! Not sure what else they expected with that one…)

Until next time, this is Tuxley signing off.

The Newest Bike Addition

This past week, I scored the coolest find on Craigslist. I make the habit of checking Craigslist every couple of days for any bike deals. There are a couple specific items that I have been hunting for, but normally, there is nothing of interest. However, this last time, I found a posting for a TerraTrike. Mr. Tux and I have been toying with getting a couple trikes in the back of our minds. The trike would be another cool bike to play with, but with their price tag, we couldn’t justify buying one just to play with.

This Craigslist posting was for a  8-speed TerraTrike Path with internal hub shifting. The previous owner was a college student whose wife was graduating and they were moving in three days to Alaska. Mr. Tux test rode the bike and we took the trike home. That night, we took out the trike and Bucchetta out. Mr. Tux rode his recumbent and I rode the trike. The trike is set up for a smaller rider, so I am going to be the lucky new owner of the trike. We are going to swap out the front crank for a smaller one for the summer. This winter the trike will be our project bike. We want to swap out the internal hub for a derailer and cassettes, and install a different crank on the front. It should be awesome.

Without further ado, let me introduce you to my new bike “Princess Peach”. (So named for how it reminds us of Mario Cart)
